Angie | People, Talent and Compliance Administrator

What apprenticeship have you done?

I started my Level 3 CIPD HR in September 2023 when I began working for Inntel. I haven’t completed the course yet.

What are your day-to-day duties?

Answering emails, recruitment, onboarding and offboarding as well as day-to-day administration for the People, Talent & Compliance department.

What benefit has on-the-job training had for you?

Gaining experience from the job rather than just from a classroom. It also allows me to earn money whilst studying.

What are your goals after completing your apprenticeship?

My main goal is to have a better knowledge of people practice. Job-wise, my target is to stay with Inntel after completing my apprenticeship.

What is your greatest success in your role?

Getting the role in the first place. As an adult learner it would’ve been a lot easier for the company to have taken on someone younger that they could mould easier, rather than someone older with some experience.

Outside of work, what hobbies do you have?

Walking the dog, going to the gym, working in my salon and learning new treatments, and socialising with friends and family.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering doing an apprenticeship?

Go for it, 100 percent! There is no better way of learning than actually learning on the job. This goes for all different types of industries. In my opinion, studying and becoming qualified whilst gaining hands on experience is the best way to learn.

Jo | Operations Support Manager

What apprenticeship have you done?

Level 4 Business Analyst – I have just recently submitted everything for final assessment! I first started working at Inntel in 2005 so it’s been a great opportunity to develop my career.

What are your day-to-day duties?

My current role is Operations Support Manager. This involves supporting the operational teams of the business with reporting, KPI’s and process improvements with the aim of making the teams more efficient.

What benefit has on-the-job training had for you?

It has meant I’ve learnt new skills that I can implement in my day-to-day role. It has also enabled me to see the important part each of us plays in making the business as a whole a success.

What are your goals after completing your apprenticeship?

The goal following the completion of my apprenticeship would be to use the skills I have learnt to improve processes in my current role.

What is your greatest success in your role?

Completing my apprenticeship alongside my day-to-day role.

Outside of work, what hobbies do you have?

I enjoy holidays, eating out and exercising.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering doing an apprenticeship?

I would recommend that anyone undertaking an apprenticeship is strict with themselves and gives it the time and dedication it needs. It can be easy to get distracted by the day-to-day job, but just consider what you will be able to give to the day job once you have completed the programme. Take on board all the training you are given and take the opportunity to speak to others who are doing the same course as you. I picked up some valuable insights from others on the same course as me.

Owen | IT Assistant

What apprenticeship have you done?

I started at Inntel in April 2022, and I have been doing the Level 4 Network Engineer V3.0 (RS) course. All my coursework is completed now, I only have exams left to do so I’m nearly finished!

What are your day-to-day duties?

I look after the IT Helpdesk. I am the first line support for all our internal users – I deal with all the issues that I can and escalate problems I can’t solve to the relevant IT Team member. I also assist with our systems; I have picked up more responsibility for these during my time here. I also do the majority of our account management, which involves new starter setups, account changes and PC/laptop imaging.

What benefit has on-the-job training had for you?

It has given me lots of valuable experience working with IT professionals that I would not have otherwise had while studying at uni. Also, it has given me an understanding of how IT people fit into businesses and work with other departments. The main benefit has been learning things on my apprenticeship, then going to work to see where these things are used and how they fit in practically. Oftentimes, it feels like the theory and reality look very different, but seeing both and learning how they piece together gives a much better understanding.

What are your goals after completing your apprenticeship?

Next, I’ll be continuing my studies to complete a Level 6 IT Qualification – this will give me the option to specialise in an area in my final year. I also aim to complete a Comp TIA Network+ exam following my current apprenticeship as a ticket to take the exam is included as part of my Level 4. Moving on from those I hope to build a successful career in IT.

Outside of work, what hobbies do you have?

I spend the majority of my spare time either at the gym, gaming, watching TV shows or meeting up with my mates.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering doing an apprenticeship?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions and admit you don’t know something. While working on the job, it can feel that you are meant to have all the answers as you are doing the job, but you’re there to learn and the support is there if you are unsure. Working like this has helped me a lot as every time I don’t know the answer, I learn something new and become more confident in my role.
