Connor | First Line Support Assistant

Connor apprentice

We caught up with Connor in our IT Team to discuss his apprenticeship course and what it’s like to combine working at Inntel with studying.

What type of apprenticeship course are you doing and when did you start?

I started working at Inntel in May 2024 and shortly after began my Level 4 Network Engineering Course. I am now halfway through and looking forwards to my final exams.

How did you find out about the opportunity?

I found this job advertised on Indeed – I applied and received a response soon after.

What are your day-to-day duties?

I have two job roles; I look after both the IT helpdesk and the helpdesk for our online booking service LOGiC. Being first line support for both our internal and external users, I am the face of IT. It’s my role to communicate with users and assist where I can or escalate the job on to the relevant people. I’m always on my toes and helping out around the office whilst learning as much as possible.

What benefit has on-the-job training had for you?

I have gained so much knowledge thanks to being fully immersed in an IT role. Being able to learn and absorb information from professionals with years of experience is amazing, it has really allowed me to grow in such a short amount of time and become confident in my role. Learning in a practical space has really highlighted the difference between theory and reality and having access to both is helpful and allows you to practice what you learn. I am looking forward to learning even more and taking on new responsibilities.

What are your goals after completing your apprenticeship?

My main goal is to continue my studies and gain a Level 6 Network Engineer qualification – this will allow me to support Inntel even more and help me grow. Thanks to my Level 4 apprenticeship I have been granted the chance to add more qualifications under my belt, such as the Comp TIA Network+. I am looking forward to specialising in what I am passionate about, and continuing to build my knowledge, CV and experience.

What hobbies do you have?

Outside of work, I spend a lot of time with my friends, I enjoy playing video games and D&D Beyond in my spare time. I also enjoy walking my dogs and spending time outside.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering doing an apprenticeship?

The main piece advice I can give is to take the leap, Inntel is amazing place to work and this is the best place for me to learn and grow. I never would have experienced this place without diving headfirst into the experience and opportunities granted to me. My advice is to fully immerse yourself in the work culture and don’t be afraid to ask questions and learn from the people around you.
