Introducing Our Sustainable Venue Programme

Is event sustainability high on your agenda? It certainly is for us. That’s why we developed the Sustainable Venue Programme to highlight venues making a real difference.

Choosing the right venue that ticks all the boxes can be daunting – not to mention time-consuming. Our Sustainable Venue Programme simplifies this process, making it quick and easy for clients to identify venues that will help keep the carbon footprint of their meetings, events, and conferences reliably low. With that one big tick done, it frees up precious time to focus on the rest of your wish list.

Venues that are part of the Sustainable Venue Programme (SVP) are clearly flagged in our LOGiC Meetings booking tool. Our Meetings and Events Consultants can also view SVP members highlighted via our internal booking systems.

This standardises our sustainability criteria, ensuring a fair and transparent approach.

Event Sustainability Criteria

There are six key criteria venues must meet to join our Sustainable Venues Programme. These minimum requirements are listed below.

  1. Onsite Recycling: The venue must have a comprehensive onsite recycling programme with clearly marked recycling bins throughout the site, encouraging both delegates and staff to dispose of waste responsibly to minimise environmental impact.
  2. Alternative to Buffet Lunch: Alternatives to buffet-style lunches must be available to reduce food waste, such as plated meals or pre-portioned options. The venue should also minimise leftovers and donate or repurpose any excess food wherever possible.
  3. ESG Accreditation: The venue has to obtain and maintain an ESG accreditation, such as Green Tourism or ECOsmart, to demonstrate a commitment to sustainable practices and responsible operations.
  4. Reduction Targets: The venue must set and actively pursue measurable sustainability reduction targets, including energy use, waste production, and water conservation. Also, regularly monitor and report on progress towards these goals.
  5. Zero Single-Use Plastics Policy: They must commit to a zero single-use plastics policy, eliminating items such as plastic bottles, straws, and cutlery. And, ensure alternatives such as reusable or compostable materials are used throughout the venue.
  6. Sustainable Event Operations: Where possible, the venue should provide sustainable event options, such as digital alternatives to printed materials, recyclable or reusable signage, and green meeting packages with low carbon menu choices. Also ensure the venue’s sustainability initiatives are clearly communicated to clients and attendees throughout the booking process.

Supporting Event Sustainability in the Industry

These requirements are reviewed annually by Inntel’s Supplier Partnerships Team, in collaboration with our ESG specialists. Venues self-certify to join the programme, with site inspection spot checks taking place throughout the year.

Membership to the Sustainable Venue Programme is not intended to replace industry accreditations; it has been created as another way to support our clients in their ESG efforts and simplify the venue finding process. All existing ESG certifications, such as ECOsmart, B Corp, EcoVadis, and so on will remain visible in each venue’s profile within our LOGiC Meetings platform.

Get with the Programme

Right now, more than 500 venues have committed to event sustainability through the Sustainable Venue Programme, with more joining all the time.
