Volunteering Day

Together, we’re making a difference.

At Inntel, we’re proud of our volunteering day policy, which empowers our team to give back to their local communities.

This year, our team has made a real impact through various initiatives, including beach and village cleans, participating in the Race for Business, and working with local schools. We’ve also devoted time to our charity of the year, Farleigh Hospice, supporting their vital work by helping with fundraising events and sorting donations to raise much-needed funds.

We’ve collated some of the team’s volunteering day stories below.

Volunteer Day – My Name’5 Doddie –  ARL2R (all roads lead to Rome)

Doddie Weir OBE was a rugby legend, earning 61 caps for Scotland and winning championships with Melrose and Newcastle Falcons. Following his 2017 diagnosis with Motor Neuron Disease (MND), he founded the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation to support those affected and fund research, aiming for a world free of MND.

In 2024, the Foundation undertook a bold challenge: cycling from Edinburgh to Rome in four days. I was honoured to support the Core Team for a day, helping them raise an incredible £493,240.

I also need to thank Village Hotels who offered their venues for stop offs, catering, warm water and drying facilities as needless to say, the weather was terrible.

Finally, I want to express my gratitude to Inntel for prioritising volunteering and giving employees the opportunity to make a difference. Their support reminds me how fortunate I am to work for a company that values giving back and making the world a better place.

Volunteer Day – Myton Hospice

“In the face of deep sadness, do something for the greater good”…..

In January this year Tiffany lost her beautiful Mum, Julie. Tiffany’s family have been raising funds for Myton Hospice in Warwick a local charity very close to Julies heart. At Julies Celebration of Life, family and friends gave donations in her memory for Myton.

Outside of work, Tiffany is a devoted “Dance Mum.” Tiffany’s daughters belong to Fiery Feet Dance School in Warwick, and Fiery Feet also chose Myton Hospice this year as their chosen charity in memory of a wonderful Fiery Feet Nanny! (Julie attended every dance show and all events without fail, often watching the show three times over!) In memory of Julie, Fiery Feet has donated all programme sales for their annual dance shows to Myton Hospice.

We sell programmes at the Myton stand at the theatre and at the last one we raised £1,385. I believe we have raised over £2.5K so far, and it makes such a difference for Myton Hospice.

Volunteer Day – Friends of Felines

When I set out to find a volunteer opportunity, I knew I wanted to work with animals. A friend recommended Friends of Felines Cat Rescue, and after reaching out to Penny, I was welcomed for the day.

Rescue work isn’t glamorous, so old, warm clothes were a must! The day began with washing cat bowls and serving breakfast to 16 delighted feline residents, followed by clearing and cleaning litter trays.

We also took a stray cat to the vet, and after some much-needed care, he was on the road to recovery. I was amazed by the number of rescue calls Penny handled in just one day, highlighting the high demand for her services and the ongoing need for funding.

In the afternoon, I tidied the equipment store and cleaned the floors, making life a bit easier for future volunteers. The experience was incredibly rewarding, and I look forward to continuing my support for this fantastic rescue.

Volunteer Day – Mersea Island Water Sports

I spent a rewarding day volunteering at Mersea Island Water Sports, a local centre where I used to work. Thanks to Inntel’s volunteer day initiative, I had the chance to give back to a community and business close to my heart.

I spent the day teaching children who had never been on the water before, guiding them through their first paddle-boarding and kayaking experiences. It was amazing to see their confidence grow. I also helped the team prepare for a big event, organising the centre to ensure everything was ready for a busy day ahead.

It was incredibly fulfilling to combine my passion for water sports with supporting a local business that plays such a vital role in our community. I look forward to continuing to volunteer and can’t wait for next year!
