5 Reasons We’re Part of The 5% Club

Inntel is proud to be a member of The 5% club, an initiative for employers focused on driving momentum for ‘earn and learn’ skills training opportunities. Earn and learn describes a group of routes into and within employment that combine study with practical experience, such as apprenticeships.

What is The 5% Club?

The 5% Club is a movement of more than 1,000 employers providing opportunities to develop the skills and talents people need to become more employable and create meaningful careers.

Companies joining the club commit to raising the number of apprentices, sponsored students and graduates on formal programmes to 5% of their total workforce. At Inntel we set our own target of 8%, so we’re proud to be achieving well above the UK average.

The 5% Club platform, and record of success, is used to engage with policymakers and influencers to raise awareness of the links between skills investment and real social impact. This is something we are keen to support in our local area and wider industry. Being part of the club has many benefits for our people as well as our business.

Why we’re part of The 5% Club

1

Supporting social mobility:

Not everyone can afford to do full time training and education. Opportunities for on-the-job training are key to helping people, particularly those from less advantaged backgrounds, progress in their careers. At Inntel, we also like to promote from within, so we’ll nurture our people’s skills and help them grow with the company. We also welcome employees retraining in different departments across the business.

2

Boosting productivity:

Helping our people further their skills allows them to excel in their job roles. In fact, government research shows 92% of employers see a boost in workforce motivation and satisfaction because of apprenticeships.

3

Keeping our culture positive:

We want our staff to feel fulfilled, happy and well-equipped to do their jobs. People tend to appreciate employers who have invested in their training and are more engaged and dedicated as a result. We’re proud that our staff turnover rate is low and on average our employees’ length of service is 7 years.

4

Creating cost-efficiencies:

Full transparency: as a business, some of our training costs are covered by government contributions. Still, we invest above industry averages in skills training for our people because we believe the returns are worth it. And we’re not the only ones. The St Martin’s Group study on the benefits of apprenticeships found that despite associated costs, UK employers see an average annual gain of £2,500 to £18,000 in output per apprentice during their training period. So it’s a good deal all round.

5

Futureproofing our workforce:

We like to be ahead of the curve. Research shows that more than three quarters of employers agree that taking on apprentices has created a competitive advantage. Training enables us to prevent future skills gaps. Our workers complete apprenticeships and upskilling covering subjects ranging from software development to carbon reduction, so we can continue to offer our clients a first rate service as our industry evolves.
